History

Established in 1987 by Harry Lewis and Marilyn Lewis, Kate Mantilini was an original concept of what was then the Lewis family owned Hamburger Hamlet.  The Lewises were the founders and operators of Hamburger Hamlet from its inception in 1950 until it was sold in 1987.  Prior to 1950, Harry was a contract player with Warner Bros. during the 40′s and acted in many films amongst which was the classic Key Largo with Humphrey Bogart and Edward G Robinson.  When the original Hamburger Hamlet opened on the Sunset Strip, Marilyn waited tables and Harry cooked the burgers.  37 years later and 23 additional restaurants, they sold the Hamlets but kept Kate Mantilini.  The family brought their famous attention to detail, recipe perfection and gracious service to Kates and carried on the tradition since then.  Today, Kate is operated by David Lewis, our Executive Chef, and Adam Lewis who is in charge of all operations.  They hold their family’s standards as sacred.

2003 brought the second Kate Mantilini in Woodland Hills.  With 42 booths and a gorgeous gardens setting, the feel is traditional and yet handsome.  The welcoming barroom has a mixed and diverse crowd which is perfect for socializing and catching all the sports on the wide-screen TV

The reliable yet exciting, mouth-watering American roadhouse cuisine continues to bring back delighted customers, year after year.  “We provide wonderful, American home-cooked meals like (but a lot better than) Mom used to make”, Adam says.
